Meet Ryu Flagle
Ryu Flagle, Lead Keeper at Reptilandia – Reptile Lagoon, brings a wealth of experience and a lifelong passion for reptiles and amphibians to her work. Originally from Detroit, Michigan, Ryu’s dedication to herpetology has led to impressive achievements, particularly in the breeding of multiple species of Flat Rock Lizards (Platysaurus), earning her recognition through a recent publication and audio feature.
As the primary caretaker for our Komodo Monitor (Varanus komodoensis), Ryu’s deep understanding of reptile behavior ensures exceptional care for this incredible species. Her expertise also extends to breeding North American Whipsnakes (Masticophis) and managing an extensive collection of venomous snakes. Most recently, Ryu contributed to a conservation project studying the Chocoan Bushmaster (Lachesis acrochorda) in Ecuador.
Ryu’s expertise, hands-on experience, and passion for reptile behavior and breeding make her a vital part of the Reptilandia team, where she helps educate and inspire visitors while advancing critical conservation work.
